This woodblock reduction print series is now artists book. It is, literally, is unique! in that it is a reductive cut or suicide method and I only made one copy but it did lead on to a lino stamped version.
Proofing of the Wine Buffs Cellar Reckoner.. (10 Green Bottles is my joke)
After I had finished cutting the bottles away on this I saw a video on UTube about using a letter press press to print lino or woodblock….so much easier!. If I had know that I would have used that!! But the columbian was destroying the rather cheap ply block very quickly and as 10 green bottles has ….well at least 10 pages !!! the block was not going to stand up to much more so I cut my losses and got one decent copy of the book and have bound it in a mono type cover using a Japanese stab binding stitch.
Further considerations – Making a Woodblock Reduction Print
Woodblock reduction prints are a little scary to make. Cut off one wrong bit and ……… well; you have a space where you did not want it!!!!! The next time I need to make sure that I do not have so much pressure on the Columbian Press. I like the bottles however and will bethinking of more ways of incorporating bottles into my printmaking….even if it is not a woodblock reduction print next time!
